Maintenance of Concrete Brick Pavers
Concrete Interlocking brick pavers, by design, are durable,
long lasting, and low maintenance. In order to preserve the
beauty of the pavers, the following maintenance suggestions may
be helpful:
Resanding the joints:
It is not necessary for the sand in the joints to be flush with
the top of the paver. Some erosion of joint sand will occur due
to rain and traffic. If the sand becomes too low in the joint,
the pavers may become loose. Reapplying the fine joint sand can
be done by your local installation company or you. Sealing the
pavers will also help reduce joint sand erosion. Your paver
installation company can do this for you.
Weed and Ants:
Treatment of the paver surface, using a weed killer and insect
killer, will help control both of these problems. Sealing the
paver surface with a sealer designed for concrete brick pavers
will greatly reduce both ants and weeds.
Stains:
Oil, paint, tar, rubber, and fertilizer stains are the most
frequent stains that occur on pavement surfaces. There are many
types of cleaners but be sure the cleaner is a product designed
for use on concrete brick pavers. Many of the cleaning products
can be found typically anywhere concrete brick pavers are sold
retail. Please follow the specific instructions for each type of
cleaner listed on the container.
Sealing the Pavers:
Sealing pavers is not necessary. It is not required to maintain
the structural integrity of the pavers. Sealing may enhance the
appearance. It also gives added protection against weed growth
and ants. The sealant deeply penetrates the pores in the pavers
making them easier to clean aiding in stain removal.
A few extra pavers are always good to keep around. One advantage
to having interlocking concrete brick pavers are that individual
units can be removed and replaced if some become damaged or
stained beyond repair.
